Keep It Simple Stupid
Growing up my parents instilled a very esoteric value set in me and my brother. I have always tried to keep my life as uncluttered as possible. A part of me really likes being that way, Enjoying simple things in life, makes life so much enjoyable. My first love is rain, I just love getting wet in the rain more than anything else.
My mom and dad always taught me about inner beauty, not to grab more than you need, mostly to live a good life. As, I’ve mentioned in my earlier posts, my parents have been very protective of me. But, It only takes a television to bombard your mind with a host of alien ideas. You’re taught about admiring inner beauty and Walla ! You see girls trying to look pretty. You’re told that food shelter and clothes are all you need buy anywhere you look you have people trying to market stuff to you perhaps you can easily live without.
Every passing year I feel my life a little more cluttered. I wonder if I want to dabble in main stream materialism ( I sometimes feel an urge to do something that might shock me out of my skin, like breaking the rules ) or maybe stick with living a very simple life. I’m sure a lot of us ask ourselves the same Question. I sometimes wonder what makes other people tick. You meet people who just like to drink Coke, they only go out with blondes, they would only ever drive a Honda. I’m perhaps just the opposite, maybe I just too afraid to make that choice. Does making those specific choices make life simpler to live?
I recently learnt about the 100 Things challenge and it’s almost impossible for me to reduce the stuff I already have, lol. But it has stopped me from taking on new unneeded stuff.
I think extending the idea to my daily life might be kind of nice, sometimes I feel my life is cluttered with so many unneeded things. Perhaps streamlining it will make it more livable.
I Know I’ve not been posting for a while, I just don’t have any creative inspiration these days, any Ideas from you guys would be greatly welcome.
Wonderful post 6mile. I like the idea myself. As a kid, I had tons of stuff, junk, whatever you wanna call it that I did not use, but couldn’t bear to part with. Don’t get me wrong, I still have tons of that junk boxed up as treasured momentos from my childhood, but in my apartment, I don’t honestly have too many things I don’t use daily or at least often. Sometimes I wonder if the cat doesn’t have more stuff than I do… and she plays with most of it frequently. I think I try to keep it simply because my apt is so small. There simply isn’t a lot of room for excess clutter.. which would drive me nuts now as an adult!
I think people who limit themselves like that (only drive a honda, date a blonde, etc) are missing out on life.
I think the simplier the better. Your parents did well by raising you like that. I grew up not having much so now I really appreciate the things I do have when I get them. I tend to only buy things I need or REALLY want and will use frequently.
Don’t allow yourself to get too sucked in, once you do it will be hard to turn back…
Ive been thinking of writing something along the same lines 6M. I really prefer to not live in excess…. Ive somehow trained my husband to stop buying too, hehe.
Speaking of which, Sorting out the closets is on my to do list. Even though we dont buy alot, its hard not accumulate stuff the longer you live. I hate wasting so I never want to throw things. Ive donated a lot to goodwill, but its never certain what happens to the stuff from there.
I am notorious to wear clothes out … literally. I wear them until they get holes.. my mom fusses at me for it.. but hey, that’s what I bought them for LOL.
Mirchi- I am also a donator. I donate everything either to the goodwill or to friends. To me I do not care what happens to it as long as I believe it is getting good use when it leaves my hands that is all that matters.
ara- I totally do that too haha from holey shirts, to talking shoes, to ripped kneed jeans you name it I do it. I will wear my clothes until that happens and then I will finally throw them out (or donate them).
hehe ara and mirchi, when i was a kid I was used to collecting tons of junk, you just form an emotional attachment with some stuff.
wmwb, I sometimes feel like I live a dual , one part of me want to life the simple life, the other not so much.
when I was a young, I usually got clothes my bro had outgrown. Whenever my parents actually purchased new clothes for me, I would just keep on using them. I still use a shit my mom gifted me while I was like 13 -14 years old, lol…. Its almost shredded. I am pretty miserly with most things, I almost think 10 times if something I’m buying is going to be useful or not. But not when it comes to clothes or food
I guess I will have to donate when I move. I came with two suitcases and have three suitcases worth of stuff.
6mile I know how you feel about the hand me downs. I was the youngest of all of the girl cousins in my family so I ended up getting the clothes of the other 4 girls. Sometimes it was good (usually when they got older and started getting better clothes and not using as much of them).
FYI, I wrote a post, although it is short and sweet LOL. I thought I would give my brain time to think up something more challenging in the meantime lol
I say…just get drunk at a pub and smooch a girl!!!!!
oh man NK, last guy that tried that on me nearly got decked, but then again I am very tomboyish and not afraid to get defensive when someone I don’t know gets in my space lol
lol, NK, i’ve never been drunk in my life. A lot of friends have tried to get me hooked, I guess Im not alcohol friendly.
ara, I think the whole point of getting drunk is to not be overly defensive
Well, they say that you will act like you want to act when you are drunk, that you won’t do something that goes past your normal morals. I have a very high tolerance for alcohol, so it takes enormous quantities to get me drunk. I get giggly when I have been drinking. I am not sure I will not ever NOT be defensive..
Man you guys missed all the fun around here LOL. I am from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.. and on Halloween, we had 2 earthquakes with several small aftershocks. That was different LOL.. I didn’t feel it, but I am the flight path of DFW International Airport..sometimes, it makes the windows rattle or whatever, so I would have ignored it regardless.. Plus, I was out of it after having a small eye surgery done on Halloween.. so at least, with wearing my eye goggles, I fit in with everyone else that had on costumes LOL
how’s it going? You are quiet too lately!
I hope your surgery went well ara, I’m sorry i’ve not been on here latley, I will be on more often. I’m glad you had a really good time
I’ve been a little busy, time for me to graduate, i’m planning to stick on some more while, the job scene is very bad *sigh*
It went well as far as I can tell
I am glad you are getting ready to graduate. Good luck with the job scene. What exactly is your degree in? You may have to move away from the area you are in now to find a job perhaps? Not saying that would make you happy, just maybe necessary to get the job you so need. Good luck mi amigo!
Hahaha.. the guy I am dating.. the one from Israel.. his favorite foods are Asian and.. Indian LOL. Can’t get away from it can I? LOL j/k hehehe
